It's Time to Stop!

I have an embarrassingly huge amount of inventory that needs listed, and I'm in the process of planning a December road trip!! What on earth am I thinking? I have bins (!) of great stuff to list. And when that's done, I have 3 bins (!) full of great fabrics that I've given up on ever using. I need to sort through them and get them listed. And when that's done, I have a HUGE (!) bag full of patterns (many unopened and uncut) that I need to list. And when THAT's done, I have an entire closet full of other sewing supplies (vintage threads and trims, pattern magazines, reference books out the wazoo...) that I need to go through and list.
So ... it is with a heavy heart that I am making public my new personal challenge:

That's right, ladies and gents. I have officially put myself on a shopping fast. Not a diet. A fast. I can't do anything in moderation, so diets don't work. It's all or nothing. Between now and the end of the year, I will NOT set foot in a thrift store. I have too much money tied up in unlisted inventory. This fast will be great for my bottom line, because I'll have hardly any money going out the rest of the year!

So there you have it. I've made it public. So now I HAVE to stick to it. No matter what. Heaven help me. And the people who have to live with me during my withdrawal period....

  1. Right there with you Jessica. I LOVE to shop and getting the great deal but I also came to the same realization just last week. So I have been on a fast as of Monday the 28th. Until January 1st.
We'll lean on each other m'kay?:)

  2. You are one brave woman! I'm not sure I could do that. I'll be taking 2 weeks off to celebrate the holiday season with family but I'm addicted to thrifting.

Hello, my name is Amy and I'm a thrift-a-holic.

  3. So am I! I'd gotten to where I was thrifting 3 times a week (or more, if I could manage it!). That's why I went public. lol. We'll all lean on each other. WHo else is in? It's only 31 days!

  4. I'm taking a break too. I already have way too much stuff to list that is taking up way too much space.
There are still going to be great deals to be found even a month from now. Hmm, actually there may be better deals in the new year since people will be getting their donations out before the end of the tax year. I know my local thrift stores are *always* backed up so new donations take awhile to get out to the sales floor anyway.

  8. Yes but yard sale season is over :( so will you be low on inventory before the season starts again? Stronger person than I, b/c I go faithfully every week.

  9. Deana, whose side are you on, anyway? hahaha. No, I'm not worried about low inventory. Like I said, I've got SO much to get listed right now. I am certain I have enough to keep my store well-stocked between now and the end of the year. It's only one more month. Then probably the 2nd week of January, I will take a good weekend-long road trip to stock back up.

  10. I make this promise at least once a month! I hope you do better than me! It is so hard for me! One way I go to work I pass a Goodwill Store and a Goodwill Outlet. If I go the other way I pass a Salvation Army and a little church thrift store! All within a half mile of my work! I am doomed to fail!!!

  11. I'm on your side lol - but I think junkers just junk. It's in the blood. We can always find a corner or shelf somewhere to hide our "treasures" in until they get listed. This resolution would last me as long as the "promise to work out" one I make every New Year's lol.
