I sold 65 items this week, 11 of which were shoes. I ran a 25% off sale from Black Friday through Cyber Monday. That helped me clear out some really old inventory. I am selling more NWT items, which are probably Christmas shoppers.
My favorites (I have a lot this week!):
I picked this up the other day and then immediately regretted it, because IUP isn't exactly a huge, well-known school. Imagine my surprise when it sold less than a week after I listed it! Paid $2.99, sold for $14.99 (-$2.94 shipping).
I bought this t-shirt on November 26th. It was a 2XL, so I was hoping that would work in my favor. I was disappointed when I researched it and saw the same shirt (different sizes) listed for $8.99 new with tags. I priced it above that and hoped for the best. It sold the next day! I assume it was because of the size, in which case I could probably have gotten more for it. Bummer. I paid $3.99 and sold it for $14.99. I had free shipping on it, but the buyer paid to upgrade to priority mail.
This was another super-fast sale. My sister-in-law picked it up for me. I paid $2.01 for it. I brought it home last Saturday and listed it the next day. It is a Build a Bear, and I was excited because it wasn't a bear. Non-bear BABWs sell better than bear ones. But again ... current and completed listings were less than exciting. I listed him for $15.99 (-$5.24 shipping) and he sold the next day.
Ugh. This isn't a favorite sale. I'm telling you about this one as a lesson to you and as a reminder to myself. I have had this stupid thing listed since last January. There is nothing wrong with it. It gets hot. Cosmetically, it's great. But there it sat. Clearly it is not a desireable brand. I have auctioned it, put it on sale, added best offer, added free shipping. Everything I could think of, and nothing was working. It was a part of my 25% off sale this weekend, so it was marked down to $16.49 or best offer, with free shipping. Someone offered me $12. To that zip code, shipping would have been over $12. I declined the offer and explained that, so they offered me $14. I declined that as well and removed the best offer option. He ended up buying it for that price. So the lesson is to not leave the best offer option and free shipping on a sale item. It's a pain in the butt to go through and remove all my best offer options for a sale, but it was worth it. So I paid $3.15 for it, sold it for $16.49, and paid $8.03 for shipping. Wow. That was worth hanging on to this thing for almost a year, wouldn't you say??
I've had these listed since LAST October! I have them in brown and black. I thought for sure they would sell quickly, but clearly I was mistaken. I paid $5.90 for them and finally sold them this week for $18.75 (-$4.90 shipping).
This girls' Columbia windbreaker was from the huge yard sale I went to in September. I paid $5 for it and sold it for $22.99 (-$2.26 shipping).
Back in my early eBay days, when I was still doing auctions, I had a Moods board game that was from my own closet. I had tried to sell it in our yard sale for several years for a whopping $2. For some reason, I decided to try to auction it. I started it at 99 cents and ended up selling it for $25! It has been on my BOLO list ever since, but I had never found one until this August. I bought this at a yard sale for $2. It was missing one of the stones, and the box was slightly damaged, but I figured $2 was a good investment. It sat for 2 1/2 months and sold this week during my 25% off sale for $24.74 (-$8.36 shipping). I guess they don't sell quite as well as they used to, but if I can find it for $2 or $3, I would buy it again.
This was in the same delivery from my sister-in-law that the BABW horse was in. I paid $3.07 for it, listed it on Sunday and sold him the next day for my full asking price of $24.99 (free shipping). The same buyer also bought a joke telling Cheer Bear from me, so I was able to combine shipping on them. I paid $7.09 to ship them both. I have sold 3 of the glow-in-the-dark Bedtime Bears, so keep an eye out for that one.
This is a new with tags Izod shirt from the big September yard sale. I paid $5.50 for it and sold it during my 25% off sale for $29.99 (-$4.70 shipping).
Cole Haan shoes in general just aren't all that attractive. I paid $2.99 for these in October and sold them for $30 + shipping this week.
I bought quite a few of these at the September yard sale, different teams, different sizes. I thought for sure they would sell like hotcakes once football season started. But this is the first one I've sold. I paid $5.50 for it and sold it during my sale for $32.24 + shipping. If I can sell them all at that profit margin, I will be one happy girl!
And finally ... this was an exciting sale to wake up to! I paid $9.99 for these Salvatore Ferragamos back in February. I sold them during my sale for $112.50 + shipping! Yippee!! Always buy nice men's Ferragamos. I haven't had any luck with women's, but men's will sell well eventually.
What did you sell this week?
Great week! Mine was pretty slow. I'm jumping on board with you! No buying until 2013!Leigh
ReplyDeleteI don't think I can hold out until 2013, Leigh! ;-)
ReplyDeleteROFL! I'm just a little ahead of myself!
ReplyDeleteJust a quick question for you on shoe buying. Do you have certain sizes that sell better than others? I have been selling womens shoes but haven't done it long enough to see a trend yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Carrie
8, 8 1/2, and 9 seem to be my best-selling sizes. 5 and 6 don't sell well at ALL.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on the Moods game. After reading your blog this morning, I went to the thrift store and sitting on the game shelf was, yep you guessed it, that very same game for $2. If I hadn't read your blog, I never would have even picked up the game or checked eBay on it.
ReplyDeleteI also found a cool Rolling Stones fleece jacket, a leapster Cars game (they gave it to me for free), an unusual care bear plush, some applique material and a newish Nike golf shirt. You sure you want to give up thrifting? :)
Great finds, Yvette!! But yes, I'm sure. I've got a massive pile of great finds that I've done nothing with. But I will certainly look forward to finding some awesome stuff in January!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading about how you do. Your posts are such a great inspiration to me and have changed the way I sell on eBay.
