An Open Letter to Our Readers

A recent guest post on this blog has received a lot of criticism lately. I didn't write the post, but I wanted to address the comments that have come up. This is a blog that is dedicated to teaching people to buy items at a low price and resell them on eBay for a profit. It is a blog that is dedicated to helping eBay sellers build up a successful work-at-home business. It is not a blog that targets anyone, or that is out there looking for an easy mark.

Collector blogs and online-selling blogs are clearly two different worlds. As online sellers, we price our items at a price point that the market supports. Collectibles are a high-demand item. High-demand items generally come with a higher price. As sellers, we are not taking advantage of our buyers. We are simply analyzing the market and pricing our items accordingly, to do what is best for our business. We do not set out to harm collectors. We set out to run successful businesses to help support our families.

If any of our new readers are offended by our Buy Low, Sell High strategies, then perhaps this blog is not one that you should be reading. We won't be offended if you move along to blogs that don't offend you. The internet is a very large place. There are blogs out there for everyone. No need to continue reading a blog that offends you.

Thanks for stopping by.

And to those of you who are NOT offended by our blog, we thank you for sticking around. As you know, we try to make it a point to stay positive and upbeat around here. We apologize to our regular readers for this interruption...

  3. Hi I have only just discovered your blog. I love it. I am not offended by it!. I do a little bit of ebay here in the uk. I sometimes buy things at what we call a jumble sale where everything is on tables in huge heaps all screwed up & tangled up. I buy a few odd things wash it , iron it & list it hopefully someone buys it. I make a little profit! I see it as making the world go round. I do not make that much through ebay as I guess its how much you put in x x Love your blog

  4. Although our goal is to buy low and sell high, that low price comes with a huge cost. I spend hours and lots of gas going through flea markets, yard sales, and estate sales just to come up with a few small specialty items that are literally like finding a needle in a haystack. So I'm saving that buyer all that time. Fortunately the hunt is something I enjoy and it usually pays off. I guess those critical readers don't watch American Pickers. Same concept, but we do it on a smaller scale.

  5. I missed the whole thing. I love your blog and even though I have only toyed with eBay, mostly selling items we already own, I enjoy all the information you share. It is interesting and a treasure trove for those that want to attempt to make money in an honest and flexible way. Thank you.

  6. I second Clamco's comment. I have often felt badly about pricing things at higher prices when I only spent a dollar on it. I quickly get over it because we do spend so much time researching, shopping, driving, researching, listing, pulling our hair out, researching some more, and so on. I have talked to so many people that have half seriously asked me to be their personal shopper. I always tell them I can keep my eye open for certain things and then give them a deal because they know what I pay for this stuff, but they have no qualms about paying what I would charge on eBay because they realize the time and effort that I am saving them. They will pay top dollar (so to speak) for half priced gently used things that are in great condition that they didn't have to find on their own. It's just not as simple as going to your local thrift store, find your size, and tada....you have your favorite jeans for two bucks. It requires trip after trip to every store in the valley. The other thing is that people do not have to buy what we are selling! You don't need most of what we are selling, at least not the brands that we sell. Everyone can't be pleased all of the time and this is one of the VERY FEW resources for those of us trying to make this work. Nobody hear is making a killing taking advantage of buyers. Most of us make a little here and a little there to help out in raising our families and maybe put a little aside for a road trip. :-)

  7. Love that you wrote this. I was just thinking about asking you about this subject yesterday. My family knows that I buy and resale on ebay but not many other people know. The few people I have told, I have gotten mixed reactions from. I feel it is a great way to help support my family and I should have nothing to hide, but I struggle with others opinions. Are you totally open about your business with everyone you know? I would love to here more on this topic if you are ever up for sharing!

  8. I am happy to be a part of this blog. I too, check for it everyday. Nothing here as ever offended me. If anything, has encouraged me to keep going despite how my Ebay efforts may be going. Because of this blogs, I have created several spreadsheets which I am truly thankful to you for! Like you said, if this blog offends anyone, just don't be a part of it. That should be obvious, in the meantime, keep being a blessing to the rest of us and our Ebay businesses and more!

  9. Completely agree with all comments - I love this blog - I learn many new things and also love to see that some of my ideas and ways to sell are being validated by others!

Treasures take time to find, and like others have said, petrol, time and then the cleaning! Meticulously cleaning and setting up lego sets or vintage games (and checking contents) is very time consuming and when I offer my bargain find up at a reasonable price, I'm being paid for my work. Luckily for me, I just love treasure hunting (I think I might have been a truffle hunter in a previous life) and am happy to bring items back to their former glory - It gives me a real thrill. More thrills come when the numbers go from red to green and the bids keep coming! Have a fantastic Christmas! And keep providing me with my holiday reading. Thanks Heaps xx

  10. I'm baffled. I have no idea which post offended people, but I suggest you put that one back at the top and take back your apology! Ignore the trolls :-) Delete their critical comments if necessary, unless they actually contribute to what we are all trying to do here at eBug.
